The Age of Virgo (approximately 15,000 – 12,500 BCE) is an extremely fascinating time. It is the age just coming out of The Garden, and moving headlong toward the vast changes that will be brought in by the Ages of Leo and Cancer. Continue reading

Musings on Astrology, Change and ‘Coming Out’

I have been studying astrology for many, many years. Since I was a teen in the early 70s, really. I have studied the stars for far longer. I remember, as a very small person, my dad pointing out the Big Dipper to me in a diamond-studded dark-night sky of the late 1950s. I was immediately hooked. My brother and I would often lie outside identifying the constellations whenever we could.

As an older person I learned that long ago astronomy and astrology had been combined sciences, and I longed for the rift between right-brain and left-brain to be healed once again. When I lived in the English countryside I got back to the night sky in my thirties and studied astrology formally with The White Eagle Lodge. I learned how to draw up astrology charts by hand mathematically. Slow and laborious doesn’t even come close.

The great Age of Leo has always had a draw for me. I felt from a young age that this was a pivotal era for humanity, and that what myths and stories surrounded this time, were shrouded in unconscious secrecy and mystery.

During the new moon in Leo 2014 this blog and its subject matter materialized. I took classes to learn Word Press (thank you, B!) during July/August last year and began writing. So, August is a coming full circle for me. I launched the blog at the Tropical Virgo new moon last summer. Our present new moon, at 21º 30′ Tropical Leo (27º Sidereal Cancer), is exact at 10:53 am EDT. Continue reading

Musings on Loss and Detachment

Full Moon at 7° Aquarius, July 31, 2015, exact at 6:43 am EDT

As I’ve noted before, the full moon marks the halfway point of the new moon cycle. This Cancer new moonth so far has been quite up to the Age of Cancer’s destruction through rains and floods, with emotional loss on a very personal level for me.

During the last nine months I have come to a place, for the first time in my life, of contentment. My life is simple, contemplative; I don’t worry and inwardly agitate as much as I used to – a habitual state for most of my life. I cultivate faith and trust in a benevolent Goddess rather than the punitive God I grew up with. I am happy.

Through most of this past year domestic peace has reigned with two very special women with whom I share a house. Continue reading

The Age of Cancer (approximately 9500 – 7400 BCE) saw the upheavals of the last major global flooding. The matri-clan system was at its height as women engineered further survival tactics and skills for their people. Men lived on the periphery of the clan receiving the male children to raise anywhere from 6 – 12 years of age. There is anthropological evidence that men hunted, women gathered/gardened, and they ate separately; men were taboo and kept separate because of their bloody lifestyle – women didn’t touch the kill let alone eat it (please see Evelyn Reed’s Women’s Evolution). The wise women, as consciousness continued to devolve, struggled to maintain their precious lifestyle attuned to the Earth, her creatures and cycles. Continue reading

The Age of Gemini – Healing the Hemisphere Split

If you are new to this site, or have just missed it to begin with, please read this article, the fourth of four groundwork articles. This information will help you to personally get the most from this New Moon Healing Cycle: how to apply the healing suggestions, and to make the Great Year Cycle a powerful healing experience each month, each year.

Gemini is most always depicted as The Twins – usually twin boys.  During the Age of Gemini the matri-clan system began to morph into the matri-family. Briefly, groups began to develop with a female co-head along with her brother. The husband of the ruling female was not important at this stage, but gained importance during the Age of Taurus (for more detail see last month’s article). This ‘twinning’ of sister and brother rulers has been largely misunderstood probably because the matri-clan system in the first place seems too bizarre to contemplate for contemporary anthropologists. Interestingly, prior to Rome  (the Age of Aries), many cultures depicted Gemini as a couple: man and woman, representing yang and yin – balance. The  twinning of sister/brother rulership began in the Age of Gemini and the symbolism of the Age is spot on, as usual, if we go back far enough. Continue reading

The Age of Taurus began approximately 7500 years ago, or 5500 BCE. It is the second Age in the Dwapara Yuga in the Vedic system, known as the Bronze Age by the ancient Greeks. This was the Age in which the events of the Bhagavad Gita took place and ended with the death of Krishna as mentioned in the Age of Aries article.

The matri-family system was possibly the dominant cultural system during much of Taurus; a dramatic change in itself but nothing compared to what was just around the corner. Mythologically, anthropologically and archaeologically the last stages of the matri-family system were dismantled during this Age as patriarchy began its final inroads. Continue reading
